For a long time, the Tropical Field
Station was mainly sustained by the funds of the association "Regenwald der Österreicher"
(Rainforest of the Austrians). This association now intends to
focus more on its original assignment, namely the acquisition of
endangered rainforest area. To provide the maintenance of the field
station, a new association was founded:
The Association for the sponsoring of the Field Station La
Gamba, Costa Rica.
Since December 2006 the Station is mainly financed by
this initiative and it is run by it in cooperation with the University
of Vienna.
The "Association for the sponsoring of the Field
Station La Gamba, Costa Rica" welcomes all persons who are
interested in the subject of tropics, rainforest maintenance, Costa Rica
and/or Latin America. The society addresses to scientists, who are
involved in tropical rainforest research, but also to persons and
institutions, who feel responsible for conservation of nature and
sustainable tourism. All members are invited to visit the Field Station
and make use of its facilities for rainforest exploration (reservation
required!).
